Dear friends of Translucidmind,
for the end of this in many ways historic 2024 and the coming 2025, nothing is more important than reminding ourselves of our shared humanity as global citizens and “children of the universe” and beyond. The questions “What is it that makes us human” will be with us in the years to come, every day more pressing.
That dreaming and the sense of empathy and of inner warmth and love for the fellow human being is among what makes us human we surely will all agree on. What is special about how we humans perceive and live love? What is it that gives us a sense of awe and sacredness in presence of beauty and love throughout all cultures? What has art to do with all of it? And again: What makes us create art?
Since the start of my textile art project, the digital printing of some of my paintings and pastels in digitally mirrored and recombinded ways on translucid parachute silk, I have been reflecting and writing on the question of how far a wearable textile could be art, poetry, and where the line to a mere fashion statement runs. I wrote several blogs so far on this question on the website for the silk textile collections, Tuluminosa.com. For myself, it is not really a question, knowing my life long interest in hand made and artful textiles and their inherent poetry as garments for life. Also, the entire process of my textile art project surely is art.
Now, recently, my four new artworks of specially long textiles arrived, based on four of my original Driftword pastels on paper, artworks in textile to hang on walls just as paintings. But also usable as daily garments in form of long scarfs with measurements known from India and more so, from the Mexican traditional rebozo. When I first unpacked and unfolded them, I felt a sudden sense of awe just as if in front of some strange beauty or in front of something sacred, as if they were sacred scrolls with mystic new symbols. I find it almost impossible to still use the word ‘fashion’ for them. And this is why:
The printing on the shiny translucid silk softly falling in waves in my hands, the special seemingly multidimensional way the silk renders the colors and light as if from another reality, made me marvel at them humbled. Many factors in my life over a long time and especially, over the last years, have come together to actualize these tangible texts, Driftword Weavings, textiles: first of all the energy of specific moments, feelings, along with a life long artistic learning and endeauvour while carressing the colour dust on the paper to make the driftwords surface, then unexpected synchronicities while mirroring them digitally, and, finally, my intellectual digital design coming together with the printing expertise of the silk manufactors in Italy to whom I express my gratitude.
While I was marvelling at these textiles, all the sudden, a French new word creation appeared in front of my inner eye in original French words: “Les Textes-Îles”, texts as islands, tangible texture of driftwords in a river, no, an ocean, no, a cosmos of consciousness, woven words as islands of poetry actualized in silk in the middle of our daily life. Poetries like “possibilities of islands”, this poetic belief in love, romantic love, of which French poet and writer Michel Houellebecq talks about at times and which he used as title for his mile stone novel about human love, transhuman technology, quest for endless material technological life as opposed to human delivery in the belief of eternal recreation, eternal love and soul transcendence at death, the human „possibility of an island“. He used to say with a gentle voice: “There is a mystery”.
A mystery, which I myself, since childhood felt in awe and surely agree with him. I will soon share a blog both here and on Tuluminosa.com on the process and the simultaneities (synchronicities) in the making of my Textes-Îles and the truly mystical significance they have for me. Personally, I perceive as mystical and sacred what cannot have been of solely human making nor could be scientifically explained and what seems to glow through a warmly loving light inside and shows us our own smallness and the immensity of an all embracing creative power existing in cosmic workings, call it God, call it loving intent in all of creation, a loving creating consciousness, whatever works for you.
For here right now, let me close with a reverence to Michel Houellebecq and his song „Présence humaine” which is for the second time my ‘Song of the Month’ on Translucidmind.com, and this year, for me, it is the song of the year. Right upon the appearance of his novel that first showed his concerns with transhumanist technologies and human soulful love, „The elementary particles“, I devoured the book deeply enjoying his style and, deeply sighing to feel finally another writer’s company in my concerns while eagerly discovering what for me was like a ‘brother poet’ in spirit.
I decided right away to go to his next lecture in Germany. I went to listen to his beautiful voice, to have my book signed and meet him in person. I smiled shyly and I mentioned that I enjoyed his closeness to German romantic poet Novalis, the great dreamer of the Blue Flower. He was so pleased with our following conversation, that he asked me right away if I would like to translate his poetry into the German, a project, that we both actually soon later had started together over emails with some selected poems. We decided to stay in contact and had many shared moments talking about all these pressing topics and about poetry in context with philosophy, mainly Schopenhauer whom we both admire. Schopenhauer had been with me in spirit in my endeauvour to call attention through my work to the gift of human love and cosmic simultaneities in transhumanist times, topics which have been my main concern since my youth when working and creating in my own room in my parent’s house as a very young writer and artist. Michel and I met several times in Paris, and some small excerpts of our long conversations he allowed me to tape. A very small part was published in German in the ZEIT https://www.zeit.de/2000/39/Man_muss_den_Tod_abschaffen
We ended up being in the same place in the world at the same time two times in later years, one of which was in Oaxaca, México, where we met at the Book fair on the Zócalo, and again, later in France. His last adieu to humanity being the novel “The map and the territory” (following Baudrillards beginning words in Simulacra and Simulation, a philosophy classic that I had gladly read in university years) which once again brought us very close as I was living in that area of France at that moment while he was turning a movie at the Montage Sainte Victore. We wrote each other again, planning to get together for a coffee in Le Tholonet. Before we met for that coffee, simultaneity brought us together by chance and surprise on a large restaurant terrace under the mountain of Cézanne and Picasso. But we were both in company and busy with that company. A brief crossing of eyes and, somehow, the mutual understanding that it was not the moment to approach each other in that moment. Destiny. He left soon after.
While he stopped writing about the transhumanist threat and became more political, without never ever leaving his belief in the possibility of an island, I continued with my life’s literary and art project leading both to Translucidmind and to Humanissexier continously developping up to this last and more than historic year 2024 and the crucial next to come from 2025 on.
The hidden hands of destiny in life. The mystery of being human.
I wish us all the very best for 2025, inner and outer freedom of being oneself, love, health, joy.

Not commenting on politics in general nor climate related topics simply because of lack of insight, I yet think – with the insight of years long of scientific readings into this topic – that one of our biggest responsibilites in these years is to be aware of the presence of AI and its unstoppable progress and dangers. All of us should be wanting to be in control of what AI does to ourselves and our lives, communities and to the planet. We are all Humanity together. We should not leave it to those with the power and wealth to control AI and make ultimate decisions on Humanity’s destiny. The reasons for this are obvious, many have warned in recent years, the most prominent and insightful voice now being Nobel Prize 2024 for physics, Geoffrey Hinton, of whom I recommend an interview in the links to important news.
This month, I highlight Translucidmind’s special on AI – collecting news links, books, articles and past blogs published on our site. This topic is in my eyes the most pressing of all in these times, which needs most attention and serious involvement of thought and knowledge for the benefit of all of us.
At the same time, I continue to put my energy, heart and passion out there to share my life project, the “Ambihemispherical Holosophy and Revolution of Humanity”, with all of you through my art and poetry. I am convinced – and it is neuroscientifically and spiritually wideley proven – that naturally developped life long practicing of ambihemispherical synchronization will help us all to find a more peaceful, skillful , healthier and satisfying future, all of us, and, more so, a dignified humanist answer to transhumanism.
In that way, all my ambihemispherical artwork, poetry, paintings, drawings, and the printings of my art on silk fabrics are most naturally part of my life long endeauvour to compose threats of understanding, a context, text, textile art, weaving of words and energies through my art and poetry hopefully permeating daily life with beauty, strength, resilience, mental focus, most benevolent and delighthearted spirit and insight.
My digital work of mirroring and assembling my paintings and sequencing them reveals unexpected appearances and new forms, created by simultaneities beyond my intention, surprising synchronicities loaded with their specific energies and beauty. In my 2024 large sequencing patterns we are reminded of the magic that traditionally handwoven textile most naturally brings about. The new collection of long, large size scarves remind of traditional Mexican weavings, and are my reminiscence to my favorite textile, namely of the Mexican rebozo.

The House of Presence – the house of the artist, the artist present in her studio, the house of life, the house of poetry, the poetry of art –
Art is life. And maybe, the living memory of all human life is in the arts, be it in prehistoric cave painting, early pottery, first written letters and signs, first melodies chanted. The art’s poetry keeps all past life present, or, as Mexican Nobel Price winner for literature, Octavio Paz wrote specifically about the genre of the poem:
“The poem is The House of Presence”.
Translucidmindgallery is a new concept of a living and happening gallery with its physical home in The House of Presence, Vejer de la Frontera, Spain, the house and studio of the artist, writer and poet Susanne Steines.
“L’artiste présente chez elle” – translate the French sentence both ways: the artist presents at her home, and the artist is present at home with herself.
You are invited to share personal moments with the artist, with friends of the artist, other artists, writers, musicians, with art in all its expressions in The House of Presence. Share a matcha tea together in clay cups made by the artist. Or have a wine at the many happening special evenings in the gallery-art studio.
Or just come in and get enchanted by the art, by the artist’s prints of her paintings on finest handrolled Italian silk, see how it feels to indulge in the light weight natural parachute silk and to wear the colors and energies of those ambidextrous mouvements every day .
The Gallery is not only the home of ambihemispherical artist Susanne Steines and her philosophy Ambihemispherical Holosophy in all expressions of the arts, it is home to the art and scientific news link archive as well as the Essay and Artwork archive of the artist, Translucidmind.com, to her Silk Fashion Design Tuluminosa.com and to what might be the start of a world wide movement for a more humanist planet: Humanissexier.org.
We open Translucidmindgallery in The House of Presence with an exhibition of Ceramics by Mexican ceramist Gustavo Perez and ceramics by Susanne Steines. A long time friendship between both artists, both present in 2009 in Gallería Acá in Oaxaca, México, where Steines first invited Gustavo Perez and French ceramist Brigitte Pénicaud to present with her, later inviting Oaxaca based artists trying to help them promote their work.
We are pleased to present some of the artist’s personal collection of Gustavo Perez’ ceramics together with her own artistic rendering with this medium. Find a text of Susanne Steines about Perez and excerpts on an interview between both on translucidmind.com. Be warmly welcome in the The House of Presence and enjoy!
